Mt. Shasta’s Southeast Side & HOT TEMPERATURES!

This past weekend my friend Bart and I climbed the Clear Creek route located on the southeast side of Mt. Shasta.

It was a beautiful moon set and sunrise along the Clear Creek trail.

Conditions for climbing were looking good until…

Lenticular Coverage

The Abyss

This lenticular cloud even though very beautiful told us there was a possibility we weren’t going to summit but gave it our best anyways.

Konwakiton Glacier

I love this glacier!

Konwakiton is a Wintun word meaning “Muddy”.

Mushroom Rock

This is almost at 13,000 ft. We made the decision to turn back because of the weather. It was very windy and cloudy and white out conditions all morning.  Of course when we got down in the late afternoon, it cleared up.

My friend Vikas Kapur was flying over Mt. Shasta the same time we were climbing. He took this awesome picture of the mountain.

We are in for HOT temperatures this week~
