Mt. Shasta Fun and More…

It has been a busy week for me starting off with driving to San Francisco!

San Francisco!

San Francisco!

Yes…it was a marathon week driving to and from San Francisco in one day and twice in one week!

Only in San Francisco…love it!

Canadian Geese

Canadian Geese

Back on the home front…These geese were honking away!

Did you know The “giant” Canada Goose, Branta canadensis maxima, bred from central Manitoba to Kentucky but was nearly driven extinct in the early 1900s. Programs to reestablish the subspecies to its original range were in many places so successful that the geese have become a nuisance in many urban and suburban areas.

Now is a great time to visit beautiful Castle Crags.

There are many trails and a short paved path to Castle Crags overlook. For more information, check out my book, “Mount Shasta Guide to Fun.”

Sunday’s Ski Adventure…

Mt. Shasta's East Side!

Mt. Shasta’s East Side~The Hotlum/Wintun!

The last day of last week Sunday was rewarding with a ski over on the east side of Mt. Shasta.

We were able to drive within a 1/2 mile or so to the Brewer Creek trail head. The walk up to snow was only 15 minutes up the drainage.

Rough Snow Surface

Rough Snow Surface

To our disappointment the snow surface was not smooth. As Gerald Spini says, “as rough as a cobb”. Lower down it was better but sticky.

Ski season is melting away. It’s time to start thinking about hiking!

My Favorite…

Sunday my friend Gerald and I took a hike to the Bear Wallows.

Bear Wallows

Definition~a declivity or sink in the ground made or capable of having been made by bears.

Just starting to freeze.

Just starting to freeze.

We saw bear prints in this pool.  I look forward to going back in the early summer when the wildflowers bloom and the wildlife awaken!
