We explored north, south, east and west of Mt. Shasta.

McArthur Burney Falls Memorial State Park

McArthur Burney Falls Memorial State Park

These waterfalls are very beautiful and unique. They are known to be some of the most spectacular falls in the world. The water comes from two sources. Burney Creek flowing from the top of the falls and the rock from the middle of the falls.

I’ve never seen a Blue Heron pose before.

This guy was hanging out with all the fisherman and getting the goods too!

Shasta Caverns

Shasta Caverns

I love going to the Shasta Cavern. It’s a 2 hour tour including a boat ride across the lake, a bus ride to the entrance of the cavern and a hour tour of the cavern itself. Very interesting formations including stalactites and stalagmites.

Shasta Lake

It’s been a while since we’ve seen the lake at it’s fullest!

and here’s the current conditions on Mt. Shasta~

Climbing up the gulch.

Memorial Weekend is known to be the busiest climbing weekend of the season. Conditions this weekend have been epic with cold temperatures at night and warming up perfectly during the day. Excellent climbing and skiing conditions right now up high. It’s starting to sun cup from 8,500 ft. and lower. With the very warm temperatures this next week, the snow pack will change quickly.

Helen Lake~Memorial Weekend

Helen Lake~Memorial Weekend

Helen Lake is at 10,400 ft. almost halfway point to the summit and a well known base camp for climbers. Well over 60 tents here not including the rest of the mountain.

The beginning of 2015 has felt more like spring than winter.

Corn like conditions on the south aspects and variable everywhere else. Hopefully with the new snow, all the rain runnels and wind scoured areas will get filled in.
