I left Robin’s class confident that I could front point, duck walk or modified French technique my way up a steep, icy mountain wall — which was good, since I had to do just that the very next weekend on Mt. Whitney.
I also learned a lot about mountaineering in general, and Mt. Shasta in particular. In fact, her story about John Muir’s trip inspired me to go back and tackle the mountain along his namesake route, and past the fumaroles that saved his life, a few months later.
